The Government of Telangana attaches one of the highest priorities to Minorities Welfare and have introduced number of schemes aimed at Educational Development of the Minority Communities. In the inception the allocation for Minorities Welfare was only 1.20 crores in 1994-95. Now it is brought to 1204.3 crores. The various schemes and allocations are enumerated as per the Thrust areas of 697 Cr.
a)Telangana Minorities Residential Schools:
Government of Telangana have embarked on an ambitious and crucial scheme of opening 160 Minorities Residential Schools at a cost of Rs.6723 Crores. This is an unprecedented step in the annals of independent India. This year 71 Minorities Residential Schools are opened from July 2016. Already staff and funds are sanctioned for this year. There will be 39 Boys and 32 Girls Residential schools. Admissions are for classes from 5th to Intermediate. This is a flagship scheme for Minorities Development of the Telangana Government.
b)Reimbursement of Tuition fees:
Government of Telangana reimburses Tuition fees of all Post Matric Minority Students on par with SC,ST & BC students on saturation basis. Allocation for RTF in 2016-17 is 238.07 crores. The State has inherited backlog of Post-matric Scholarships and RTF from the previous composite State. This year Government has sanctioned Rs.300 Cr to clear the backlogs. On an average 1.25 lakh students avail the scheme annually.
Government of Telangana sanctions Scholarships for Minorities on par with SC.ST and BC’s on saturation basis Post matric. Yearly 1.25 lakhs students are benefitted from Intermediate to PG courses. Allocation for 2016-17 is Rs.50.00 Crores.
d)Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme:
The Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Minorities was introduced in 2015-16 and received with tremendous applause and enthusiasm. In this, Minority Students desirous of pursuing higher Education in Foreign Universities are given a grant of Rs.10.00 Lakhs per Student plus one-way Airfare. Last year 462 Students were granted sanction. Allocated Rs.30.00 crs in 2016-17. From this Academic year the grant is increased to Rs.20.00 Lakh plus Airfare for every student.
e)Pre matric Scholarships:
Government of Telangana have introduced the Pre-Matric Scholarships for Minorities from 2015-16, wherein all Students from Class I to X are granted Scholarships (Those students who are left uncovered after Sanctions granted by Government of India) Rs. 30.00 Crores in 2016-17. Last year 89628 students benefitted.
f)Centre for Educational Development of Minorities:
This Institution prepares Minorities candidates for competitive exams leading to admissions in professional courses. Last year 2143 students passed the Competitive Exams. The allocations for this year are 3.00 Crores.
g)Minorities Study Circle:
Government of Telangana have started the Telangana Minorities Study Circle from the year 2015-16. The Study Circle will prepare Minorities Candidates for competitive exams leading to employment like TSPSC Group I, II, III & IV, Staff Selection Commission, Bank Probationary Officers, Police and Armed Forces Recruitment etc. Allocation for 2016-17 is 7.00 Crores.
h)Government have decided to sponsor 100 Minority candidates for preparing All India Services Exams from Best available Institutions every year.
